Known as the “foggy city”, Chongqing is covered by cloud and mist for more than one-third of the year. Because of this, the outline of the building model became the starting point of the design.
The design borrows the “line-drawing” of the traditional Chinese painting techniques. The modeling of the office tower and the podium are interconnected and also separated poetically, like clouds lingering in the hills of the landscape. Using the topography and the “contour lined” shaped podium, the building, on the shore of the Yangtze River, becomes an extension of the hills, reconciled with its surrounding environment.
